Lexington’s 2011 GIVE INTO THE GROOVE, was an amazing feel-good benefit featuring live and electronic music, multimedia art, and fashion. The event, which draws attention to community needs, brought together a wide array of wonderful people who gave to some of Lexington’s most valued causes.

The 12 charities honored were United Way of the Bluegrass, Lexington Humane Society, WUKY, Chrysalis House Inc, Indian Summer Camp For Kids, Local First Lexington, Ashland Estate, Planned Parenthood, Kentuckians For The Commonwealth, Kentucky Museum for Arts and Craft, Bluegrass Trust and Living Arts and Science Center. With these amazing causes, GIVE INTO THE GROOVE 2011 returned to Buster’s Billiards and Backroom with a vengeance!

The event exploded with energy with a fantastic musical lineup including The Pass, ellee ven, Prodéje, Elemental Groove Theory, No Excuse, The March Madness Marching Band, Jacob Yates & Heeju Son, and Dr Gram. Party-goers lent their time and creative talents playing a round of musical chairs, dancing for their favorite cause, adding to the virtual quilt (giveintothegroove.com/virtualquilt.html), finger-painting with professional finger-painter Naomi Silver and experiencing a live installation by the Lexington Film League in GIVE INTO THE GROOVE’S Art Attic.

The growth of GIVEINTOTHEGROOVE has been so positive that HOT SAUCE RECORDS is opening a satellite office in Lexington to support the local effort. Hot Sauce Records will be located at 522 West Short Street, and will open its doors in August 2011.

GIVE INTO THE GROOVE is made possible by sponsors HOT SAUCE RECORDS, FredaLA.com, Equus Insurance, Buster’s Billiards and Backroom, and Images Model and Talent Agency. Also supporting the cause is the Bluegrass Barkery, Make Yourself Useful, Naticakes and WUKY. All kinds of people gave into it and all had a good time.

MEET THE TALENT: The Pass

Author: admin | Filed under: Uncategorized
Kentucky might be the last place you would expect to host the next high-energy electro-pop breakout band, however, Louisville’ s the Pass is exactly that. The courageous quartet pours passionate lyrics into a whirlwind of synthesizers and upbeat rhythms, all whilecatering to the perfect dance party environment. The Pass released its debut LP, Burst
(sonaBLAST!), in September 2010 and has been steadily inching toward the spotlightever since.

The Pass consists of Kyle Peters on vocals and guitar, Will Roberts on bass, Brian Healey on keyboards and Neil Lucas on drums. And it should come as no surprise after hearing this band that nearly every member additionally dabbles in using various synthesizers and samplers, the essential ingredients in the band’ s ’ 80s-throwback sound. Peters and Roberts originally met in high school in New Jersey and were in a number of garage bands together, but it wasn’ t until their eventual relocation to Louisville, KY, where they met Healey and Lucas that the Pass was ultimately formed. With mutual influence from electro-dance artists like Justice and Daft Punk combined with its synth-pop rooted sound, the Pass has been developing with one main goal in mind: creating music of which
it is fun to be a part.

The content of the Pass’ music draws inspiration from dance parties, relationships, making out, the power of positive thinking and whatever rests in between. It is without a doubt that Burst is as much a product of long nights experimenting with synthesizer loops and emotive melodies as it is the product of the band’ s positivity.

The Pass will be headlining Give Into The Groove this year! Come on out to hear them play, and before you go, visit their MySpace at www.myspace.com/thepasstheband to learn some jams.

MEET THE TALENT: ellee ven

Author: ellee | Filed under: GITG2011

Known as much for her philanthropy as for her music, ellee ven is excited about opening for her favorite band in the region at this year’s GIVEINTOTHEGROOVE!

ellee ven’s most recent album was reviewed by Cortney Harding of Billboard Magazine for Billboard Discoveries. Here’s what she said:

ELLEE VEN, “Her Wildcat Lovin Majesty”

Groovetonics: That’s how electronic/dance act Ellee Ven personifies her musical signature: a fusion of rock, pop, rap and electronica. Somehow, the mesh of seemingly disparate elements unifies for an upbeat ethereal grab bag of tribal beats and treats, accompanied by Ven’s dreamy, girlish vocals, which lie somewhere between Stacey Q and Everything But the Girl’s Tracey Thorn. Seventh full-length CD “Her Wildcat Lovin Majesty”— featuring accompaniment from Antony Lee on guitars, and Mikhail Davies on bass—is vast in its stylistic presentation, from the trippy, trance-inspired “Under My Skin” and dark, Depeche Mode-conjuring “Signals” to blippy ‘80’s-reminiscent “What Am I Running From,” rock/rap jam “Next To You” (featuring a rap from Prodéje) and stripped-down acid flashback “Wonder Where These Roads Will Lead.” The common theme throughout is a positive, mood-enhancing flow, suited to Saturday nights in clubland—acknowledged by Ven’s recognition with a nod as Artist of the Year at the 2009 South Bay Music Awards and winner of the 2008 Los Angeles Music Awards’ Electro Pop Artist of the Year. Who needs chemical enhancement? Ellee Ven’s “Majesty” is one fervent elixir.
